Job Description

Want to help us, help others? We’re hiring!

GoFundMe is a global community of over 150 million people who come together every day with the common purpose of helping one another. Our mission is to help people help each other through our best in class technology. In 2022, GoFundMe joined together with Classy, a leading nonprofit fundraising software company that enables nonprofits to connect supporters with the causes they care about. Together, we have empowered people and organizations to raise more than $30 billion since 2010. Our vision is to become the most helpful place in the world.

Join us! The GoFundMe team is seeking a seasoned Director, Technical SEO to lead our global organic search strategy. You’ll sit at the intersection of marketing, product, engineering and data, helping shape our roadmap with SEO best practices in mind and supercharge growth. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and is excited to work on a product that makes a difference in people’s lives.

Candidates considered for this role will be located in the San Francisco Bay Area and will be expected to go into the office 3 times per week.

The Job…

  • Own and scale GoFundMe’s global SEO strategy with a focus on technical SEO across mobile and desktop experiences.
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data science to ensure SEO is embedded into our platform’s architecture, roadmap, and testing framework.
  • Lead technical audits, identify opportunities, and champion fixes across crawling, indexing, rendering, site speed, internal linking, structured data, and more.
  • Define SEO KPIs and measurement frameworks, working with the analytics team to report on performance and inform roadmap decisions.
  • Stay ahead of algorithm changes and emerging trends, and ensure we remain competitive across a dynamic search landscape.
  • Support new product and feature launches from an SEO lens - including internationalization, UGC surfacing, and landing page optimization.
  • Mentor and guide cross-functional teams on SEO best practices, fostering a strong SEO culture across the company.
  • Experience with emerging search engines: LLMs, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other video platforms.
  • 10+ years of SEO experience, with a strong emphasis on technical SEO at scale. Proven track record driving SEO growth in fast-moving, high volume, UGC-heavy environments (marketplaces, content platforms, or similar). Experience with both B2C and B2B SaaS is an advantage.
  • Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams — must be comfortable writing tickets and explaining the business impact of changes.
  • Deep knowledge of search engine behavior, ranking factors, site architecture, and schema/structured data.
  • Experience with large scale taxonomy based directories, e-commerce/merchandising, and ASO.
  • Strong understanding of analytics platforms (Google Analytics, GSC, Looker, Amplitude).
  • Strong understanding and experience with AI search, also known as AEO.
  • Strong experience working on international SEO/localization/hreflang.
  • Data-driven mindset - you know how to use data to tell stories, make decisions, and measure impact.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to influence across departments and leadership levels.
  • Ideally based near or around San Francisco or willing to relocate.

Why you’ll love it here...

  • Make an Impact: Be part of a mission-driven organization making a positive difference in millions of lives every year.
  • Innovative Environment: Work with a diverse, passionate, and talented team in a fast-paced, forward-thinking atmosphere.
  • Collaborative Team: Join a fun and collaborative team that works hard and celebrates success together.
  • Competitive Benefits: Enjoy competitive pay and comprehensive healthcare benefits.
  • Holistic Support: Enjoy financial assistance for things like hybrid work, family planning, along with generous parental leave, flexible time-off policies, and mental health and wellness resources to support your overall well-being.
  • Growth Opportunities: Participate in learning, development, and recognition programs to help you thrive and grow.
  • Commitment to DEI: Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion through ongoing initiatives and employee resource groups.
  • Community Engagement: Make a difference through our volunteering and Gives Back programs.

We live by our core values: impatient to be great , find a way , earn trust every day , fueled by purpose . Be a part of something bigger with us!
